Technical Alerts and Product News
Seller Dashboard now on eBay
Nick Donelson just announced that the Seller Dashboard is live on eBay! Sellers can see their Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs), Search Standing, Buyer Satisfaction, and more. You must have at least 10 DSRs in the past 12 months to see your data.

Developer Impact: Your sellers are going to be looking to you for guidance on providing better customer service and improving their scores. Use GetSellerDashboard to retrieve your sellers dashboard data. That will help you determine which sellers would most benefit from your expertise.

Identity Confirmation and User Tokens
We previously posted about Trusted Selling with Identity Confirmation. In certain cases, eBay will be requiring sellers to verify their identity by initiating an automated phone call to their registered phone number. If unable to do so, sellers can also contact Live Help for identity confirmation.

Developer Impact:
I have gotten some additional clarification about how this impacts developers. eBay sellers who list using 3rd party tools will not get identity checks when listing with these tools. They will, however, go through identity checks when they grant consent for the tool to list items on their behalf (i.e., when a new user token is generated).

If the eBay member is granting consent from an unrecognized computer, they may initiate an automated phone call from eBay to their registered phone number with a PIN number. That PIN number should be entered in the next screen.

Developers should be prepared for these identity checks when a user token has expired (and consent must be granted again), or when signing up a new customer (and consent is given for the first time). It's a good idea to prepare the eBay member for what they will experience, and to make sure they have a current phone number on file with eBay or add a mobile phone number as a secondary phone number.

This applies ONLY to developers who manage user tokens.

Catalog Data -- Not Just for Books and Music!
Over the next week, we will be introducing Catalogs in multiple categories including Consumer Electronics, Computers and Networking, Cameras and Photo, Business & Industrial and Home and Garden. The full list of categories is listed below for your reference.

Catalogs enables sellers to easily add product information such as brand, model, color, and in some cases, a stock photo, to their listings using a Brand, Product Type, or Model. Buyers find this additional product information very helpful as they shop on eBay. Here is the list of categories where Catalogs will be introduced:

  • Consumer Electronics
  • Computers and Networking
  • Cameras and Photo
  • Business & Industrial
  • Home and Garden

For a full list of categories and subcategories that have catalogs, see the blog post

Coming Soon -- New Item Specifics in the Wheels, Tires and Parts Category
Thanks to the community's input, we plan to add more Brands to the Item Specifics List in the Wheels, Tires and Parts Category.

Popular wheel brands such as DUB and Koenig, as well as tire brands like Dayton and Falken will soon be available as Item Specifics to help sellers better identify their items. After this change, over 250 wheel and tire brands will be available as item specifics.

For general information about Item Specifics and how to use them, please visit the Item Specifics overview page. If you have any comments or feedback about Item Specifics, please email them to taxonomy@ebay.com and they will be considered for future enhancements.
